Ukraine’s Alpha Special Forces Destroy Over $5.5 Billion in Russian Military Equipment in Four Years

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Alpha Special Operations Center of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has destroyed more than $5.5 billion worth of Russian military equipment. The unit, a key component of Ukraine’s special forces, has played a pivotal role in both front-line combat and long-range operations, consistently ranking among the top performers in the country’s Security and Defense Forces.

Alpha Unit’s Impact on the Battlefield

According to the SBU press service, Alpha special forces have been instrumental in neutralizing Russian military assets. Every sixth Russian tank destroyed on the front lines has been attributed to Alpha operations, with the unit having eliminated more than 1,800 tanks to date. These figures reflect only confirmed hits, highlighting the precision and effectiveness of the unit’s operations.

For four consecutive months, Alpha has ranked among the top leaders in terms of the number of enemy vehicles and personnel destroyed using drones. Within the SBU’s special forces, the unit consistently holds second place in this critical ranking, underscoring its operational efficiency and strategic importance.

Long-Range Operations and Strategic Strikes

Beyond front-line engagements, the Alpha unit employs long-range drones to target enemy positions deep behind Russian lines. These operations have struck military airfields, warehouses, and oil refineries, further disrupting Russian military logistics and infrastructure. The use of drones has allowed the unit to inflict significant damage without exposing personnel to direct combat, demonstrating a modern approach to asymmetric warfare.

Expanding Air Defense Capabilities

The SBU has recently announced recruitment for Alpha’s air defense team, signaling a further expansion of its operational capabilities. The unit already possesses extensive experience in protecting Ukraine’s airspace and aims to train additional personnel to enhance national defense.

“The Alpha special forces already have a high level of experience in protecting Ukraine’s airspace and are ready to share it with others,” the SBU noted, emphasizing the unit’s role in both frontline and aerial defense operations.

In four years of sustained conflict, the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center has established itself as a key instrument in Ukraine’s defense strategy. With over $5.5 billion in enemy equipment destroyed, including more than 1,800 tanks, and a growing role in air defense, the unit’s contributions highlight both the effectiveness and adaptability of Ukraine’s special operations forces.
