Pete Hegseth has issued a series of statements regarding the United States’ ongoing enforcement of sanctions against Venezuela’s oil industry. In recent social media posts, Hegseth emphasized that the blockade targeting sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains fully operational on a global scale.
According to Hegseth, the United States is actively enforcing measures against “dark fleet” vessels. These are ships that operate outside of standard maritime regulations to transport oil illegally. Hegseth stated that these vessels are being used to finance illicit activities, characterizing the operations as theft from the Venezuelan people.
The statements clarify the parameters for acceptable trade, noting that “only legitimate and lawful energy commerce—as determined by the U.S.—will be permitted.”
Hegseth’s comments underscore a continued policy of strict enforcement against maritime entities attempting to bypass U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan energy exports.
