Stephen Miller, ‘The Only Maritime Energy Transport Allowed Will Be That Consistent With American Law and National Security’ After Latest Tanker Seizure

Stephen Miller addressed recent developments in maritime energy transport policy, emphasizing legal and national security parameters for oil shipments and outlining economic opportunities for Venezuela’s energy industry.

In a statement posted on X, Miller said,

“The only maritime energy transport allowed will be that consistent with American law and national security.”

The message underscores that maritime transport of energy resources must comply with existing U.S. legal frameworks and safeguards tied to national security.

“There is unlimited economic potential for the Venezuelan energy sector through legitimate and authorized commercial avenues established by the United States.”

This portion of the statement suggests that while restrictions on maritime energy movements are being firmly enforced, the U.S. government also believes there are lawful and approved commercial pathways for Venezuela’s energy industry to participate in global markets.

The comments come amid ongoing U.S. maritime operations targeting vessels suspected of evading sanctions and transporting Venezuelan oil. This is the third tanker seized since this operation began, reflecting an intensified enforcement effort.
