In a press briefing, Vice President JD Vance fielded a question from a reporter about former Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s strong rhetoric concerning an ICE-involved shooting and concerns raised by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey regarding potential unrest in the city. The exchange came amid revelations about Walz’s abrupt resignation following the uncovering of alleged fraudulent activities during his tenure.
Vance dismissed Walz’s comments, stating, “It’s very tough rhetoric from a guy who just quit because his fraudulent activities have been uncovered.” He emphasized that Walz and his administration lacked credibility, calling them “a joke.”
Vance further challenged the portrayal of Walz, saying, “The idea that he’s some sort of freedom fighter—he’s not. He’s the guy who has enabled fraud. And maybe in fact has participated in fraud.” He noted that a newly appointed assistant attorney general would investigate these matters to uncover the full extent of any involvement.
Shifting focus, Vance made clear his priorities: “I don’t care what Tim Walz says. I care about getting to the bottom of this fraud for the American people. And I care about enforcing the nation’s immigration laws. That’s what we’re going to stay focused on.”
