Republican Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback criticized leaders in his own party for what he described as a lack of seriousness in confronting national issues, saying Republicans were focused on media appearances and political jokes instead of substantive action.
Fishback made the remarks during a live-streamed episode of NXR Studios, a program that describes itself as “unapologetically Christian” and “unapologetically right wing.”
“What I’m seeing on the ground is people, yes, are frustrated with the Democratic Party establishment, but they’re also really pissed at Republicans,” Fishback said. “Our country is being auctioned off before our eyes and all Republicans can seem to do is go on Fox News and make jokes about Kamala Harris or Barack Obama instead of actually fighting for the heritage and birthright of our nation.”
Fishback said he had been traveling across Florida counties ahead of the Republican primary and described voter dissatisfaction with both major parties. He said Democrats were facing backlash from their base, while Republicans were failing to translate criticism into concrete action.

Fishback has drawn attention in recent months for provocative statements and policy proposals that emphasize discipline, cultural norms and reduced reliance on government assistance.
In February, Fishback said it was a “big fat lie” to claim that food stamps make Americans better off, arguing that rising participation reflected a weak economy rather than improved living standards. He cited the growth in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program enrollment since 2000 and said the goal should be an economy in which families could support themselves without government aid. He said he supports a safety net but warned against long-term dependence.
It’s a *big fat lie* to claim that food stamps make Americans better off. In 2000, there were 17 million Americans on food stamps. Today, there are 42 million, including 4 million foreign-born. That is not a sign of a healthy economy.

In January, Fishback said he would mandate public school uniforms statewide if elected governor. He proposed specific clothing requirements and said students who refused to comply would be expelled. He framed the proposal as part of a broader push for what he called “order and discipline” in schools and said the state would cover uniform costs for families who needed financial assistance.
This is sadly what many high schools in Florida look like.

As Governor, I’ll mandate a statewide uniform, and we will cover the costs for all families that need it.
If a student refuses to follow dress code, they’re getting expelled.
No more dressing ghetto at our schools. https://t.co/hWuWLGIwiP
Fishback has used social media and nontraditional platforms to promote his campaign, including an appearance on The Tucker Carlson and an expected upcoming appearance on Piers Morgan. He has said his strategy is aimed at younger voters and focuses on what he describes as cultural renewal centered on work, marriage and family formation.
Fishback is seeking the Republican nomination to succeed Governor Ron DeSantis. The field includes Representative Byron Donalds.
