Representative Chip Roy, alongside Congressman Keith Self, has launched a new congressional effort aimed at opposing the influence of Sharia law in the United States. Speaking at a recent gathering in the House of Representatives, Roy emphasized the initiative as a defense of what he described as the foundational principles of Western civilization and the nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage.
Roy outlined the motivation for the effort in a detailed statement, framing it as part of a broader effort to counter what he sees as internal threats to American values. “I am proud to be with this group of Americans, of colleagues, many of whom wore the uniform in defense of our nation and in defense of our nation against radical Islamic terrorists who wanted to destroy our country and destroy what we know about Western civilization. And now that same war is being conducted against us, but from within,” he said.
Rep. Roy: "You can believe whatever you want, but you cannot engage in what is a political effort to Islamify the United States of America and not expect us to fight back."

The lawmaker specifically pointed to Texas cities, including Dallas and Houston, as areas of concern. “Dallas, Houston, Texas is ground zero. That’s why Keith Self and I joined together to create this, Sharia Free America Caucus, because we understand that the root strength of this country is our Judeo-Christian principles and the values of Western civilization that have advanced the cause of liberty, freedom, and prosperity for people around the world,” Roy said. He stressed that Sharia law, in his view, conflicts with both the Constitution and the rule of law, asserting, “Sharia is inconsistent with Western civilization. Sharia is inconsistent with the Constitution of the United States, the Declaration, and the rule of law in our country.”
Roy also highlighted specific legislative measures being pursued by the caucus. He mentioned efforts to prohibit Sharia law in U.S. courts, restrict tax advantages for organizations linked to terrorist activities, and pause certain immigration processes until the system can ensure compliance with constitutional principles. “These are the kinds of things that the American people expect us to do to defend this country. They are the kinds of things that we will do in the Sharia Free America Caucus and to stand up and let the voices of the American people be heard that we’re not going to be cowed by groups coming in and trying to make places where there are no-go zones for our women in the state of Texas,” he said.
The caucus, formally established on December 18, 2025, has quickly expanded to include twenty-six members representing seventeen states. In a statement, Congressman Self, who co-founded the caucus with Roy, emphasized the group’s mission: “Preserving the American way of life is essential to protecting civil liberties and upholding the United States Constitution. Sharia stands in direct opposition to our country and is totally anathema to the concept of individual freedom and our founding principles. I thank my House colleagues for joining this noble cause to save Western Civilization and fight back against the threat of Sharia.”
Roy concluded by reinforcing the caucus’s long-term commitment, invoking both historical sacrifice and constitutional principles. “Our ancestors bled and died so that we could live in a country like this. You can believe whatever you want, but you cannot engage in what is a political effort to Islamify the United States of America and not expect us to fight back and say no,” he said. He further warned against allowing American cities to mirror what he characterized as European failures, adding, “We are going to fight for this country. And that’s what I’m proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with these great men and women to say that we’re going to do. And I’m not going to allow the Constitution to be frankly misapplied and hid behind to say that I’ve got to throw aside 250 years of our core Judeo-Christian principles.”
