Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt criticized President Donald Trump’s immigration strategy and questioned whether the administration’s goal should be to deport all undocumented immigrants, following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minnesota by federal agents.
Speaking on CNN, Stitt said the killing and other recent incidents had raised concerns about federal tactics and accountability. “This is a real tragedy,” he said. “The death of Americans, what we’re seeing on TV, it’s causing deep concerns over federal tactics and accountability. Americans don’t like what they’re seeing right now.”
Stitt said Trump was elected to address border security and remove violent criminals from the United States but argued the administration must clarify its broader objective. “What is the endgame? What is the solution?” he said.

Hey Governor @GovStitt – you went on TV today pretending Americans DON'T want to deport EVERY SINGLE illegal non-citizen?
WRONG! YES, we DO want them ALL gone – violent… pic.twitter.com/NumkzgwncI
He said he did not believe the goal should be mass deportation. “Is it to deport every single non-U.S. citizen? I don’t think that’s what Americans want,” Stitt said.
Stitt said the president should define how the effort would conclude and suggested Trump was receiving poor advice. “The president needs to let the American people — what is the solution? How do we bring this to conclusion?” he said.
He proposed allowing states to issue workforce permits that would pair employers with undocumented workers who are not receiving public assistance, while charging employers a fee. “If you’re going to have an employer-employee relationship, we should be fixing that, instead of politicizing this,” he said.
Stitt said tensions surrounding immigration enforcement were escalating and called for a reduction in political rhetoric. “Tempers are just going crazy, and we need to calm this down,” he said.
His remarks came as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called on the Trump administration to halt federal immigration operations in the state following the shooting of Pretti, the second fatal incident involving federal officers there this month.
