President Donald Trump once again targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar on social media, questioning her loyalty to Somalia while referencing a past U.S. military strike in Somalia.
“Was Ilhan Omar there to protect her corrupt ‘homeland?’” Trump posted, referring to a February 1, 2025, operation in which U.S. Africa Command, in coordination with the Somali government, conducted airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia. The command reported that multiple ISIS operatives were killed and that no civilians were harmed, emphasizing the care taken to protect noncombatants during the mission.

Trump’s post continues his long pattern of mocking Omar, the Somali-born Minnesota Democrat, for her immigrant background and for asserting rights under the U.S. Constitution. At a previous rally, he questioned her commitment to the Constitution, contrasting her with immigrants he described as “great people” who come to the U.S. legally. “They are coming in legally, but they cannot come in unless they come in legally into our country, and we are letting some great people come in. They have to show that they can love our country. Not like Ilhan Omar,” Trump said.
Trump: They have to show that they can love our country. Not like ilhan Omar. See that wiseguy? She is always talking about the constitution. The constitution. She comes from a country that is a disaster. It is not even a country, ok? It barely has a government. I don't think it… pic.twitter.com/adcccxRYJQ

Omar has been a frequent critic of Trump’s immigration policies and has raised questions about constitutional protections, prompting repeated attacks from the president. Over the years, Trump has leveraged her Somali heritage to cast doubt on her allegiance and amplify unsubstantiated claims about her personal life, framing her as a foil to his vision of lawful, patriotic immigration.
The latest post underscores Trump’s continued strategy of tying Omar’s immigrant status to national security issues, using her Somali roots and a U.S. military operation abroad to frame his criticism.
