US Southern Command Carries Out 36th Lethal Strike in Operation Southern Spear Under Hegseth’s Direction, Targeting Narco-Terrorist Vessel in Eastern Pacific

On January 23, 2026, the United States Southern Command carried out its 36th lethal kinetic strike as part of Operation Southern Spear, targeting a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations in the Eastern Pacific.

The strike, conducted under the direction of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth by Joint Task Force Southern Spear, came after intelligence confirmed the vessel was actively engaged in narco-trafficking along established smuggling routes. Two individuals identified as narco-terrorists were killed in the operation, while one survived.

Following the engagement, USSOUTHCOM coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivor, ensuring immediate humanitarian support.

USSOUTHCOM emphasized the operation’s precision and adherence to safety protocols: “Two narco-terrorists were killed and one survived the strike. Following the engagement, USSOUTHCOM immediately notified [U.S. Coast Guard] to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivor.”

This latest strike underscores USSOUTHCOM’s ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist-linked narcotics networks and secure critical maritime routes in the region.
