“Stop Funding This Violence…End the Assault on Our Communities”— Elizabeth Warren Condemns Trump’s Federal Agents After Minneapolis Fatal Shooting

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D‑Mass.) reacted strongly to the federal agent‑involved shooting in Minneapolis on Saturday, describing the incident as a grave failure of federal immigration enforcement and urging congressional action to curb what she termed “chaos” caused by current policies.

“Horrific. Trump’s federal agents shot and killed another person,” Warren wrote, directly referencing the latest fatal encounter between Department of Homeland Security officers and a Minnesota resident during an immigration enforcement operation. She criticized Republican leadership in Congress, saying they “could put a stop to this chaos.”

Warren called for an end to ICE operations in Minnesota, writing, “Enough. Get ICE out of Minnesota, stop funding this violence, and end the assault on our communities.” Her remarks reflect a broader Democratic critique that the presence of federal immigration agents in Minneapolis — part of a surge in enforcement actions ordered by the Trump administration — has escalated tensions and endangered public safety.

According to official accounts, U.S. Border Patrol agents fired defensive shots after a man approached them with a 9 mm handgun during a targeted operation; the man was later pronounced dead at the scene. DHS officials said medics on site attempted aid, and a crowd of roughly 200 people later clashed with law enforcement.

Warren’s statement is consistent with her previous comments on ICE’s recent operations. Earlier this month she described ICE as “out of control” amid nationwide concern after another controversial fatal shooting in Minneapolis in January, in which an ICE agent shot and killed Renée Good — a 37‑year‑old U.S. citizen. She argued that current enforcement practices have fueled fear and uncertainty in communities.

Her call for Congress to block funding for the agency and halt enforcement echoes a growing chorus of Democratic lawmakers and activists demanding accountability. A Quinnipiac poll this week found significant public unease over recent federal immigration enforcement actions, with a majority of registered voters saying they believe past shootings were not justified and that ICE’s activities have made cities less safe — though opinions remain sharply divided along party lines.

As investigations into the Minneapolis shooting continue and protests persist across the Twin Cities, Warren’s stance underscores mounting legislative pressure on Republicans in Congress to reexamine federal immigration enforcement priorities and funding decisions.
