In the wake of U.S. forces capturing former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro under President Donald Trump’s administration, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller appeared on CNN to discuss the situation. During the interview with Jake Tapper, Miller emphasized that the interim Venezuelan authorities have privately committed to fully complying with the United States’ terms and requirements.
The exchange began with Tapper seeking clarification on whether the interim government in Venezuela had agreed to all of the United States’ demands. Miller responded directly, stating, “I want to be very clear on this point, Jake. The interim Venezuelan authorities have sent messages—private messages—to Secretary Rubio, to our senior U.S. government official negotiators, and others, making clear that they will meet the terms, demands, conditions, and requirements of the United States in full.”
Miller further explained the basis for this assurance, noting, “We are in charge because we have overwhelming military force stationed just outside the country, and they know that. So yes, they are complying, and we expect full compliance going forward.”
When Tapper pointed out that the interim government had not made these commitments publicly, Miller countered by saying, “They don’t need to say it publicly. The private assurances are what matter, and we’ve received them.”
Miller concluded his remarks by highlighting the broader implications, adding, “This is how we ensure America’s interests are protected—drugs off our streets, criminals extradited, and stability restored without endless occupation.”
The interview clip, aired on CNN, featured on-screen text reading “WHITE HOUSE: VENEZUELA INTERIM GOV’T ASSURES FULL COMPLIANCE WITH U.S. DEMANDS” and a lower third identifying Miller as “Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff.” The breaking news banner at the bottom referenced “MADURO’S VP SWORN IN AS VENEZUELA’S ACTING PRESIDENT.”
