Russia Warns of “Disastrous Consequences” if U.S. Strikes Iran, Condemns Foreign Interference — “Categorically Unacceptable”

Russia condemned what it described as external interference in Iran’s internal affairs and said U.S. threats of new military strikes against the country were “categorically unacceptable,” according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

In its statement, Moscow accused outside forces of attempting to exploit unrest in Iran as a pretext for further military action, and warned that any such strikes could have “disastrous consequences” for stability in the Middle East and global security.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also criticized what it called “brazen attempts to blackmail Iran’s foreign partners by raising trade tariffs,” and pointed to social and economic problems inside Iran — including protest movements triggered in part by Western sanctions — as the underlying causes of unrest.

In remarks repeated by the ministry’s spokeswoman, Moscow “strongly condemns the destructive foreign interference in Iran’s internal political affairs” and emphasized that Iranian authorities are seeking to engage constructively with their own society to address economic and social challenges.

Moscow said it is coordinating with Russian diplomatic missions in Iran, noting that these missions are operating normally and remain in contact with Russian citizens in the country. The ministry urged Russians in Iran to avoid crowded places as tensions continue.

The Russian response reflects broader geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran, where ongoing protests and calls for political change have drawn international attention. U.S. officials have at times suggested potential military support or action in response to the crisis, prompting sharp reactions from Tehran’s allies in Moscow.

Russian criticism of the United States’ posture toward Iran also comes amid broader disputes over U.S. foreign policy actions, including reported Russian objections to Washington’s operations in other countries and broader accusations that the U.S. is undermining international norms.

The situation in Iran continues to evolve, with significant unrest and mounting diplomatic tensions involving multiple global powers. Russia’s statement signals its intent to push back against U.S. rhetoric and potential military actions, underscoring Moscow’s support for Iran’s sovereignty and warning of the broader implications of external intervention.
