Rep. Tim Burchett Says America Is Sending ‘Forty Million Dollars a Week’ to Taliban — ‘They Use Your Tax Dollars to Do It, and It Ought to Disgust You’

U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) urged constituents to contact their senators in support of the No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act (H.R. 260), legislation aimed at halting U.S. funding to the Taliban, saying the measure was scheduled for a vote in the Senate.

In a video shared on social media, Burchett said the United States sends approximately $40 million per week to the Taliban through aid programs and non-governmental organizations. He described the funds as passing through Taliban-controlled banks, which he said take a portion of each transaction.

“Every week, we’ve been sending them forty million dollars a week, if you can imagine that,” Burchett said. “Just like the mob… these guys, they take a cut. All we’re trying to do is get it reported so we can stop it, and they use your tax dollars to do it.”

Burchett said Americans fought to liberate Afghanistan from the Taliban and criticized the return of funding to the group following the U.S. withdrawal. He encouraged constituents to call their senators to support the legislation, noting that Tennessee Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn were already backing the bill.

The representative referred to the measure as a Senate version of a foreign affairs bill and called on Americans to contact their senators to ensure its passage. “Do not leave this stone unturned… Let’s quit arming our enemies. Let’s quit stealing your dadgum money,” Burchett said.

The bill, officially titled the No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act (H.R. 260) and often referred to by Burchett as the “Defund the Taliban” legislation, has passed the House of Representatives and is awaiting consideration in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
