“Our Intelligence Reports That Russia Is Preparing New Massive Attacks,” Zelenskyy Warns — Urgent Plea to International Partners to Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defenses as Missile and Drone Strikes Intensify

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Friday that Russia is preparing “new massive attacks” and emphasized the urgent need for strengthened air defense systems from international partners.

“Particular tasks today have been assigned to air defense units and the military… Our intelligence reports that Russia is preparing new massive attacks,” Zelenskyy said in a video address to the nation, stressing that Ukraine’s current supplies remain insufficient.

Zelenskyy’s comments reflect a months‑long push by Kyiv for more sophisticated air defense capabilities to protect cities, critical infrastructure, and civilians from frequent Russian missile and drone strikes. Russian forces have repeatedly targeted energy grids and residential areas, raising the stakes of Kyiv’s defense needs.

Ukrainian officials have repeatedly told allies that while they have some systems in place, missile supplies for Western‑made air defense remain too slow and inadequate. Ukraine has publicly called for accelerated deliveries of Patriots and other advanced systems, pointing to their life‑saving role in protecting key infrastructure.

Despite partner countries providing some Patriot systems and funding for additional units, Ukraine continues to appeal for more — including potential orders for as many as 27 Patriot batteries in the future

Analysts note that Russia’s air attack campaigns have grown in scale, with large numbers of drones and ballistic missiles striking Ukrainian cities and energy facilities. This persistent threat highlights the strategic importance of comprehensive and layered air defense support from Western allies to help Ukraine maintain its operational resilience.

Zelenskyy’s push for stronger air defenses also aligns with broader international defense collaboration efforts. Kyiv has repeatedly urged NATO partners and other supporters to fulfill past commitments and accelerate deliveries, reflecting urgency as conflict persists well into its fourth year.
