The 2026 Golden Globe Awards marked a significant evening in Hollywood, recognizing achievements in film and television while providing a platform for artists to address pressing matters. Amid the glamour, actor Mark Ruffalo seized a red carpet moment to highlight recent events involving the death of Renee Nicole Good and broader political concerns.
During a red carpet interview with Kevin Ortega-Rojas, Ruffalo, who attended the event alongside his wife Sunrise Coigney, wore a “Be Good” pin in tribute to Renee Nicole Good. Good, a Minnesota mother, was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agentson January 7, 2026, amid reports of heightened enforcement actions. Ruffalo dedicated his appearance to her memory and used the opportunity to discuss what he described as troubling actions by the U.S. government.
Ruffalo began by stating, “This is for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered.” He then addressed claims of deception by the vice president, saying, “We have a vice president who’s lying about what’s happening.” Expanding on international issues, he referenced a conflict, noting, “We’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded.”
He continued by critiquing leadership priorities: “He’s telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality.” Ruffalo highlighted personal controversies, adding, “But the guy is a convicted felon or convicted rapist. He’s a pedophile. He’s the worst human being in the world.”
Emphasizing the implications, Ruffalo warned, “If we’re relying on this guy’s morality—the most powerful country in the world—then we’re all in a lot of trouble. So this is for her, and I’m here to tell you that this is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I’m one of them.”
He concluded his remarks by affirming his patriotism while expressing concern: “I love this country and what I’m seeing here happening is not America.”
Ruffalo’s comments were made in the context of honoring Good’s memory and drawing attention to what he portrayed as escalating domestic and international tensions under the current administration. The interview captured a raw moment at the awards, where Ruffalo chose to speak directly about these issues rather than focus solely on the celebrations.
