“Importing Radical Islam Will Destroy America Just Like It’s Destroying Europe Right Now,” Rep. Brandon Gill Warns — “Islam Didn’t Come to the United States on the Mayflower, We Imported It”

Rep. Brandon Gill warned that what he described as the spread of radical Islam poses an existential threat to the United States, arguing that immigration policies have allowed an ideology into the country that he says is fundamentally incompatible with American constitutional values. His remarks were delivered as part of his public advocacy for what he calls a “Sharia Free America,” a legislative effort aimed at preventing the application of Islamic law within U.S. legal or civic institutions.

“Sharia law and radical Islam have no place in the United States,” Gill said, asserting that cultures and political systems are not equally compatible with America’s governing framework. He argued that radical Islam, which he described as a political ideology rather than a religion, holds views on free speech, religious liberty, and the separation of church and state that sharply conflict with American constitutional principles. According to Gill, this incompatibility explains rising tensions and acts of terrorism in Western countries.

“Radical Islam as a political ideology has a very different conception of freedom of speech than we have in the United States, a very different conception of freedom of religion, of separation of church and state—or of mosque and state,” he said. Gill further characterized the ideology as inherently expansionist, claiming it seeks political dominance rather than coexistence.

Gill argued that Islam has no historical roots in the founding of the United States, contrasting it with the country’s early European settlers. “Islam is largely alien to American history. It certainly didn’t come into the United States on the Mayflower,” he said. He contended that its presence in the U.S. is the result of deliberate immigration policy choices and warned that continuing those policies would have severe consequences. “It’s something that we deliberately imported as a matter of immigration policy into our country, and it’s going to destroy us just like it’s destroying Europe right now,” Gill said.

The congressman framed his remarks around opposition to Sharia law, an Islamic legal framework governing personal and religious matters in some Muslim-majority countries. Gill and other members of the Sharia Free America Caucus argue that Sharia law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and must be explicitly barred from influencing American courts, schools, or public institutions, despite longstanding legal precedent that U.S. law supersedes any religious legal system.

Gill has built much of his political profile around a hardline stance on immigration, particularly opposition to illegal immigration and strong support for deportations. He has repeatedly argued that lax border enforcement and asylum policies have allowed dangerous ideologies to enter the country, framing immigration not only as a security issue but as a cultural and civilizational one.

“It’s our job to stand up to that, to stand up for our values, and to prohibit alien cultures and alien ideologies that do not comport with our governing framework,” Gill said, adding that his participation in the Sharia Free America Caucus reflects that mission.

Gill’s remarks come amid ongoing national debates over immigration, national security, religious freedom, and the limits of cultural pluralism in the United States. While supporters view his stance as a defense of constitutional order and Western values, critics argue that such rhetoric risks conflating extremist ideologies with broader religious communities and could inflame social divisions.
