An Israeli woman was rescued Wednesday evening after being found wandering in the West Bank city of Jericho, an Area A zone under Palestinian Authority control where Israeli civilians are prohibited from entering, according to Israeli authorities.
The incident was first reported after the Israeli Civil Administration received alerts about an Israeli woman moving through Jericho, raising immediate concerns for her safety. Officers from the Jericho District Coordination and Liaison Office were dispatched to the area and intervened to secure her, as reported by Israel National News.
Following the intervention, the woman was transferred to Israel Defense Forces personnel, who escorted her out of the city. The case was subsequently handed over to the Israel Police for further investigation, Israeli officials said.
According to The Jerusalem Post, which cited a report by Maariv, the woman was identified as 22 years old. An initial investigation found that she mistakenly entered Jericho while attempting to travel to a different destination.
Security officials reiterated that entering Area A locations, including Jericho, is prohibited by law for Israeli civilians and poses serious security risks. Such incidents frequently require coordinated rescue efforts involving the Civil Administration, the IDF, and Israeli police authorities.
The rescue marked the second time this week that Israeli authorities responded to an incident involving an Israeli woman inadvertently entering a Palestinian-controlled city, according to Israel National News.
In recent weeks, multiple similar incidents have been reported across the West Bank. Israeli officials have attributed some cases to navigational errors, while others involved individuals entering restricted areas intentionally or while under the influence of alcohol. Israeli media reported that at least six such incidents occurred in December 2025 alone.
