Germany to Host Small-Drones Production Line for Ukrainian Forces

German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems and Ukraine-based Frontline Robotics have announced the launch of a new mass-production line for small drones in Germany to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The joint venture, named Quantum Frontline Industries (QFI), aims to produce the Zoom and Linza drone variants developed by the Ukrainian company.

Why it matters

This initiative represents the first time Ukrainian-designed drones will be produced at industrial scale in Europe. By establishing the production line in Germany, the project also aims to create employment opportunities for Ukrainians, while expanding the availability of drones capable of performing reconnaissance and strike missions under electronic warfare conditions.

What to know

  • Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with long-term plans to reach 10,000 units per year.
  • The Linza drone can carry up to 2 kilograms and operate at ranges up to 10 kilometers, performing strike and reconnaissance missions even under electronic jamming.
  • The Zoom drone is designed primarily for frontline reconnaissance.
  • Ukrainian forces have been operating Quantum Systems-made Vector drones since 2022, with hundreds delivered to date according to company statements.
  • Under the partnership, Quantum Systems will provide a fully automated production line in Germany, while Frontline Robotics will contribute licensed production rights and operator training.

What people are saying

A Frontline Robotics spokesperson told Defense News that over 60 units in Ukraine currently trust the company’s drones for tasks such as target acquisition, artillery fire adjustment, coordinate transmission for combat planning, night operations, and functioning under jamming conditions.

What happens next

The companies have described the project as “the new German Model” for transnational co-production. As production ramps up in 2026, both firms plan to monitor operational performance and expand capabilities, ensuring Ukrainian forces have sustained access to advanced drone technology in the field.
