“For Most of American History, Congress Was Filled With High-IQ Men Who Were Extremely Articulate and Took the Job Seriously,” Conservative commentator Matt Walsh Says After Rep. Becca Balint Walks Out of Hearing Following Heated Exchange With Pam Bondi

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh criticized the conduct of members of Congress after a heated exchange between U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Democratic Rep. Becca Balint during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, writing that earlier generations of lawmakers were more serious and capable.

“It’s hard to believe now but for most of American history congress was filled with high IQ men who were extremely articulate and took the job seriously,” Walsh wrote on social media in response to video of the confrontation.

The comment followed a contentious oversight hearing in which Bondi testified before the House Judiciary Committee for more than five hours. The session included repeated interruptions, raised voices and at least one lawmaker leaving the room.

Prior to their final exchange, Bondi and Balint engaged in additional back-and-forth, with Balint telling Bondi, “This is not a game, Secretary.” Bondi replied, “I’m attorney general,” to which Balint responded, “My apologies, I couldn’t tell.”

During their final exchange, Bondi accused Balint of voting against a resolution condemning antisemitism while discussing prior actions of the Justice Department. Balint interrupted Bondi and challenged the remark, referencing her family history.

“Talking about antisemitism to a woman who lost her grandfather in the Holocaust?” Balint said before leaving the hearing room, video of the exchange showed.

After departing, Balint told Capitol Hill reporter Pablo Manríquez that Bondi had appeared at the hearing to “hurl insults” rather than answer questions. She said the attorney general’s remarks about antisemitism were personal and inappropriate.

“She went so far in accusing me of antisemitism when my own grandfather was killed in a concentration camp,” Balint said in a hallway interview. “That’s how low she sunk, and everybody saw what she’s about.”

Balint added that she believed Bondi was unwilling to acknowledge mistakes and compared her conduct to that of former President Donald Trump.

Walsh, a political commentator and host of The Daily Wire’s “The Matt Walsh Show,” frequently weighs in on congressional hearings and political confrontations through social media and his program on The Daily Wire. His post did not reference Balint or Bondi by name but appeared to respond directly to the exchange.
