Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on Monday commented on the geopolitical significance of Greenland, referencing recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Arctic island. Speaking to reporters, Babiš said, “I bought a globe so I could see exactly where Greenland is,” emphasizing the need for clarity on its location and strategic relevance.
The Czech leader highlighted Greenland’s position in relation to Russia, noting the potential reach of Russian missiles. “The Oreshnik would fly from Russia to the White House in 26 minutes, and the eleventh minute would be exactly over Greenland,” he explained, underscoring the island’s role in continental defense calculations.

Babiš also affirmed the relevance of Trump’s arguments regarding China and Russia, framing Greenland as a crucial geopolitical point for monitoring and deterring potential threats. “So Donald Trump’s arguments about China and Russia are relevant,” he said.
His remarks come amid escalating international attention on Greenland, following Trump’s repeated calls for U.S. control over the territory and NATO discussions about Arctic defense. European leaders, including Denmark and Greenlandic officials, have stressed cooperation within NATO to address regional security, while the U.S. has emphasized strategic priorities in the Arctic.
Babiš’s comments reflect growing awareness among European policymakers of Greenland’s critical location for global security and the importance of coordinating defense measures in the region.
