House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries celebrated the Supreme Court’s ruling Friday that struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, calling the decision “a big victory for the American people.” In a post on social media, Jeffries described the outcome as “another crushing defeat for the wannabe king,” framing the ruling as a check on what he has repeatedly characterized as the president’s overreach.
The Supreme Court decision striking down the harmful Trump Tariffs is a big victory for the American people.

And another crushing defeat for the wannabe King.
Jeffries has long criticized Trump for asserting authority to levy tariffs without clear congressional authorization. A fellow democratic leader, Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts previously highlighted the president’s attempt to impose duties on allies over Greenland, calling it a “constitutional crisis” and accusing Trump of acting as a “tax troll with no legal authority to levy these tariffs.”
Trump wants to be the Tariff King but he’s nothing more than a tax troll. Imposing tariffs on our allies if they don’t hand over Greenland? Enough is enough. pic.twitter.com/77Hxq59vx7

The Democratic leader has also consistently denounced Trump’s broader conduct. Following a controversial social media post by the president depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama in a racially insensitive manner, Jeffries labeled Trump “a vile, unhinged and malignant bottom feeder” and urged fellow Republicans to denounce him. He contrasted Trump’s actions with the leadership and character of the Obamas, emphasizing their “brilliant, compassionate and patriotic” service to the nation.
President Obama and Michelle Obama are brilliant, compassionate and patriotic Americans. They represent the best of this country.

Donald Trump is a vile, unhinged and malignant bottom feeder.
Why are GOP leaders like John Thune continuing to stand by this sick individual?…
Jeffries’ response to the Supreme Court ruling positions him as a central Democratic voice on both trade policy and the broader checks-and-balances debate over presidential authority. By framing the invalidation of the tariffs as a “big victory for the American people,” Jeffries reinforces his commitment to holding the administration accountable while highlighting the potential economic impact of Trump’s policies.
