Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon Accuses Kristi Noem of Lying — “If You Don’t Want People Angry About What They Saw, Don’t Lie About It”

Pennsylvania Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following Noem’s appearance on CNN’s State of the Union. The exchange stemmed from an interview where host Jake Tapper pressed Noem on details surrounding an incident involving a woman moving her car, amid broader discussions on security and presidential actions.

Scanlon, a Democrat representing Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District and a member of the House Judiciary Committee, responded to Tapper asking Noem directly: “The question is, what was she doing when she was moving her car?” Noem responds by redirecting the conversation: “The question is why are we arguing with the president who’s working to keep people safe?”

Accompanying the clip, Scanlon wrote: “Because in America, we have the First Amendment. If you don’t want people angry about what they saw, don’t lie about it.” Her statement highlights the protections of free speech while directly addressing what she perceives as misinformation in Noem’s handling of the query.
