“The US Government Is NOT Your Piggy Bank,” Rep. Luna Defends Trump’s Tariffs — “Any Company or Person Seeking to Get a Big Payday From This Is a Total Fraud”

Representative Anna Paulina Luna forcefully defended President Donald Trump’s tariff policies following a Supreme Court ruling that could put more than $175 billion in tariff collections at risk of being refunded to companies.

“The US government is NOT your piggy bank. Any company or person seeking to get a big payday from this is a total fraud. Decouple from CHINA and bring your industry back to the US. TOO MANY politicians and companies with deep, deep ties in CHINA,” Luna wrote in a social media post.

Her remarks came after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled 6-3 that Trump overstepped his authority in using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose broad emergency tariffs on imported goods. The justices sent the matter back to the Court of International Trade to determine next steps, a move that economists say could trigger a wave of refund demands from affected companies.

According to an estimate from the Penn-Wharton Budget Model, approximately $175 billion in tariff collections are subject to potential refunds. The group’s analysis, based on tariff rates by product and country and cross-referenced with U.S. import data, found that roughly $179 billion in revenue had been collected under IEEPA authorities since February 2025. The estimate aligns with extrapolations from U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, which previously showed $133.5 billion in assessments as of mid-December, a figure that typically adjusts downward after corrections and refunds.

Luna’s comments framed potential refund claims as opportunistic and tied them to broader concerns about U.S. economic dependence on China. Her call to “decouple from CHINA and bring your industry back to the US” echoes Trump’s longstanding push to reshore manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains, particularly in strategic sectors.

The Florida representative has consistently aligned herself with the president on major policy priorities. She has publicly thanked Trump for advocating voter identification requirements and has been a vocal supporter of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, known as the SAVE Act. After Trump reiterated his support for stricter voter verification and citizenship requirements, Luna responded, “Thank you, President Trump! Voter ID is a must deliver for the American people and this is mandatory to secure elections!”

Trump has endorsed Luna and she has frequently defended his policy agenda in Congress and on social media. Her latest remarks on tariffs underscore that alignment, as legal and financial questions surrounding the administration’s trade measures continue to unfold.
