“LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!” — Trump Defends Federal Agents and Blames Minnesota Officials — “The Mayor and the Governor Are Inciting Insurrection With Their Pompous, Dangerous, and Arrogant Rhetoric!”

President Donald Trump issued a forceful statement following a deadly shooting by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, renewing his criticism of local Minnesota officials, questioning community responses, and tying the incident to broader political and financial grievances.

In a post on social media, Trump focused on the weapon involved in the incident, writing: “This is the gunman’s gun, loaded (with two additional full magazines!), and ready to go — What is that all about?” He went on to challenge local authorities, asking: “Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers?” Trump suggested that Minnesota leaders, including the mayor and governor, prevented local police from intervening in the situation, leaving federal agents to act in self‑defense.

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have said that Border Patrol agents fired defensive shots after a man approached them with a 9 mm semi‑automatic handgun and two magazines during a targeted operation. Medics attempted to treat the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A crowd of roughly 200 people later confronted law enforcement, prompting crowd control measures.

Trump criticized Democratic leaders for their responses to the deployment of federal enforcement agents, accusing Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of “inciting Insurrection” with their rhetoric and demanding the end of federal operations in the city.

The president also pivoted to broader accusations unrelated directly to the shooting, questioning financial matters involving Rep. Ilhan Omar and state‑level financial integrity. “Why does Ilhan Omar have $34 Million Dollars in her account? And where are the Tens of Billions of Dollars that have been stolen from the once Great State of Minnesota?” Trump wrote, calling for the return of “massive Monetary Fraud” and claiming, without evidence, that money had been stolen. He framed the situation as akin to a “really big Bank Robbery” and said those responsible should be jailed.

Trump defended federal immigration enforcement and reiterated that ICE and Border Patrol agents must be allowed to carry out their duties without local obstruction. “LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!” he wrote, adding that “12,000 Illegal Alien Criminals, many of them violent, have been arrested and taken out of Minnesota. If they were still there, you would see something far worse than you are witnessing today!”

The Minneapolis incident is the second fatal confrontation between federal agents and civilians this month amid an aggressive immigration enforcement surge ordered by the Trump administration. Officials say the presence of thousands of federal agents is intended to bolster arrests and removals, but local leaders have argued that heavy federal involvement has heightened tensions and endangered residents and protesters alike.

Thousands marched in downtown Minneapolis just days earlier in freezing temperatures, demanding an end to federal immigration operations and greater accountability in the wake of earlier controversial shootings.

Trump’s comments underscore the administration’s framing of the enforcement efforts as necessary for public safety and law enforcement, while critics argue the surge has led to avoidable confrontations and civil unrest. The conflicting narratives reflect deep political divisions over immigration policy, federal authority, and community safety in cities like Minneapolis as protests and legal challenges continue.
