On the night of January 10, Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of targeted strikes against Russian military infrastructure, including a fuel depot in Volgograd Oblast, Russia, and multiple sites in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these operations aimed to reduce the offensive capabilities of Russian forces and involved the use of attack drones.
Strikes in Russia
The Ukrainian military reported that units struck the Zhutovskaya fuel depot in Oktyabrsky district, Volgograd Oblast. “As part of measures to reduce the offensive capabilities of the Russian aggressor, on the night of January 10, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Zhutovskaya fuel depot,” the General Staff stated. The depot is involved in supplying fuel to Russian army units. While the target was successfully hit, the extent of the damage and Russian losses are still being clarified.
Local authorities later confirmed a fire at the depot following the reported drone strikes. The strikes follow a pattern of attacks on Russian fuel facilities, including a January 7 strike on the Oskolneftesnab fuel depot near Kotel, Belgorod Oblast, which resulted in a massive fire.
Operations in Occupied Ukrainian Territories
In addition to the Russian strikes, Ukrainian forces targeted key military assets in temporarily occupied areas:
- In Zaporizhzhia, a drone storage site of the Russian 19th Motorized Rifle Division was struck.
- In Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian troops hit an enemy drone control point.
- Other targets in Donetsk included:
- A concentration of personnel from the 76th Air Assault Division in Kurakhivka.
- A command and observation post of a tank battalion unit from the same division in Hirnyk.
- A control point of a unit of the 41st Army, also in Hirnyk.
The General Staff confirmed that all these operations involved attack drones, though enemy losses remain under assessment.
These operations are part of a series of strikes on Russian fuel and logistical targets in recent days:
- On January 8, Ukrainian forces struck a moving train carrying fuel and lubricants in occupied Crimea, specifically on a loading gantry at the Hvardiyske fuel depot.
- On January 7, as mentioned, the Oskolneftesnab fuel depot in Belgorod Oblast was hit, causing a large fire in the fuel tanks.
The Ukrainian General Staff has emphasized that these strikes are part of ongoing measures to weaken Russian offensive capabilities and disrupt supply lines. By targeting fuel depots, drone storage, and command points, Ukrainian forces aim to limit the operational capacity of Russian troops both inside Ukraine and across border regions in Russia.
