President Trump Announces “More Than $5 BILLION DOLLARS Toward the Gaza Humanitarian and Reconstruction Efforts… The Board of Peace Will Prove to Be the Most Consequential International Body in History” — Meanwhile, US National Debt Hits $35 Trillion

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that member states of the Board of Peace have pledged more than $5 billion for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, along with committing thousands of personnel to an international stabilization force and local police operations. The announcement comes ahead of the group’s first official meeting, scheduled for February 19 at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., a facility recently renamed by the State Department in the president’s honor.

Trump emphasized the scope and ambition of the initiative in a post on Truth Social, writing, “The Board of Peace has unlimited potential. Last October, I released a Plan for the permanent end to the Conflict in Gaza, and our Vision was unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council. Shortly thereafter, we facilitated Humanitarian Aid at record speed, and secured the release of every living and deceased Hostage.”

According to Trump, the Board’s formation was formally celebrated last month when “two dozen distinguished Founding Members joined me in Davos, Switzerland, to celebrate its official formation, and present a bold Vision for the Civilians in Gaza, and then, ultimately, far beyond Gaza — WORLD PEACE!” He said the upcoming Washington meeting will see member states pledge more than $5 billion toward Gaza’s humanitarian and reconstruction efforts and commit thousands of personnel to both the International Stabilization Force and local police “to maintain Security and Peace for Gazans.”

Trump underscored that the success of the initiative depends on Hamas adhering to specific conditions. “Very importantly, Hamas must uphold its commitment to Full and Immediate Demilitarization,” he wrote. He described the Board of Peace as “the most consequential International Body in History,” and called his role as chairman “an honor” in overseeing the group’s work.

The Board of Peace has attracted participation from more than 20 countries, including regional powers such as Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, along with Israel and emerging nations like Indonesia. While the initiative has gained regional support, some traditional Western allies of the United States have approached it more cautiously.

The Board was established under Trump’s plan to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, a plan formally endorsed by a United Nations Security Council resolution. The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas officially took effect in October 2025, though both sides have accused each other of violations. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 590 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops since the ceasefire began, while Israel reported five soldier fatalities caused by Palestinian militants.

The announcement of a $5 billion pledge for Gaza comes as the United States continues to manage a growing federal debt. As of early 2026, the U.S. national debt stands at over $35 trillion, reflecting years of budget deficits, federal spending, and borrowing. While international humanitarian and stabilization efforts remain a key focus of U.S. foreign policy, lawmakers and economists have warned that balancing overseas commitments with domestic fiscal sustainability will be an ongoing challenge for Washington.
