A plane passenger has been arrested after attempting to open the door on a flight from Boston to Hong Kong, according to multiple reports.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, a 20-year-old man from mainland China allegedly attempted to open a door during Cathay Pacific’s CX811 flight from Boston to Hong Kong, according to Reuters. The incident occurred mid-flight as the aircraft was traveling between the two destinations.
According to a Cathay Pacific representative, the airline’s response was immediate and thorough. “Our cabin crew immediately attended to the situation, inspected the door to ensure it was securely closed, and reported the incident to the relevant authorities and the police,” the representative told Reuters and The Independent.
The airline confirmed that despite the alarming incident, the flight proceeded safely to its destination. The plane landed safely at Hong Kong International Airport early in the morning on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025. No passengers or crew members were injured during the mid-flight incident, according to the airline’s statement.
Following the safe landing, the man was arrested by Hong Kong police early on Thursday morning. He was taken into custody on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance, which governs safety and security protocols for aviation operations in Hong Kong.
“The case has been handed over to the police for investigation. At Cathay, the safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make,” the airline representative concluded in their statement. The incident is now being handled by Hong Kong’s police force, who are conducting a full investigation into the matter.
The Cathay Pacific spokesperson emphasized the airline’s commitment to passenger and crew safety, noting that their protocols were followed precisely during the emergency situation aboard Flight CX811. The airline has not released additional details about the incident as the investigation remains ongoing.
