Kristi Noem Labels Tragedy As Coverup — “Don’t Let Politically Corrupt Leaders Who Are Just Trying To Cover Up Their Theft Of Taxpayer Dollars, Try To Distract You From The Situation”

United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem weighed in on the deadly Minneapolis shooting on Saturday, sharply criticizing local leaders in Minnesota while addressing the ongoing federal storm response. She placed the blame for the unrest and violence on what she called “politically corrupt leaders,” asserting that they were trying to distract the public from alleged mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.

“Don’t let politically corrupt leaders who are just trying to cover up their theft of taxpayer dollars, try to distract you from the situation,” Noem declared, calling out Minnesota Governor Tim Walls and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. She framed the fatal incident as part of a larger pattern of obstruction and negligence by local authorities.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, federal officers were conducting a targeted operation against an individual wanted for violent assault when the suspect approached U.S. Border Patrol agents with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and resisted disarmament. Agents fired defensive shots, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. DHS reported that the suspect had two additional magazines of ammunition and no identification.

Reuters confirmed that the man was a lawful gun owner and a Minneapolis resident. Video footage circulating online showed the suspect wrestling with officers before shots were fired, and hundreds of protesters later converged on the scene, obstructing law enforcement and throwing objects, prompting the deployment of crowd control measures.

Noem used the incident to highlight what she views as Minneapolis’s failure to cooperate with federal authorities. She contrasted DHS operations in other cities—where, she claimed, law enforcement successfully brought criminals to justice—with Minneapolis, where she argued local leaders “encourage the destruction of their city and crime against their people.”

She also cited alleged mismanagement of public funds in Minnesota, claiming that officials were using the unrest to distract from “a historic, unprecedented theft of American taxpayer dollars.” DHS officers, she emphasized, were performing “lawful duties to keep Americans safe in the threat of criminal illegal aliens in this country,” and she called for cooperation between federal and local authorities to prevent further violence.
