Kremlin Says Trump Would “Go Down in History” If He Secures Greenland — “Not Only In US History, But In World History”

The Kremlin said on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump would go down in history if he succeeded in taking control of Greenland, according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov stressed that he was not weighing whether such a move would be good or bad, but was merely acknowledging expert opinions.

“There are international experts who believe that by resolving the issue of Greenland’s incorporation, Trump will certainly go down in history. And not only in the history of the United States, but also in world history,” Peskov said.

Trump has repeatedly insisted he will accept nothing less than ownership of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, claiming that if the United States does not act, Russia or China will.

When asked about Trump’s warnings regarding the alleged Russian threat to Greenland, Peskov declined to comment on any purported Russian designs, saying only that there has been a lot of “disturbing information” recently.

“Here, perhaps, it is possible to abstract from whether this is good or bad, whether it will comply with the parameters of international law or not,” he added.

Leaders of Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected Trump’s claims, stating that the island is not for sale and has no intention of becoming part of the United States.
